Hiking in Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria Hiking & Walking

The landscape and climate assets that have earned the nickname of continent in miniature make Gran Canaria a real paradise for nature lovers, especially for trekkers.

Hiking along its many hiking paths is undoubtedly one of the best ways to see the island up close and to discover its natural and cultural treasures hidden amongst its 32 protected areas.

Gran Canaria, it can be said, is like a bicycle wheel. Its highest point, the Pico de las Nieves centered in the middle of the island, is the hub and the valleys and gorges radiate out from there to the coast, which serves as the bicycle rim. The island is the result of volcanic activity and over time has been eroded, leaving behind deep depressions and massive gorges.

The dry, arid and rugged environment of the south is in stark contrast to the lush green of the gently sloping north.
