Playa de La Aldea

Going down the valley towards the village of Aldea, you will find yourself in a nice fishermen harbour with a beach by it. The beach of Aldea is a narrow stretch of cobblestones for about two third of the length. This part is boardered by the wall of a beach promenade, which is allready partially destroyed by the waves.

The south end of the beach is again cobblestones which stretch from the rivermouth to the cliffs. Inside the harbour there´s a small area of sand beach.

Around there are some tiny local restaurants, which are mainly family run business, offering you the fresh food, especially fish.

During winter it might be really cloudy and a bit cold to sunbath, but still worth visiting, while during summer season it is a perfect beach for relaxation. There is also a nice promenade to take a walk while gazing at the mountains and a sunset to the sea.

Beach Charactristics:
720 metres long
25 metres wide
Black stone
Might be quite windy, mild waves

History
The legacy of the aborigines is very significant in La Aldea. At the Archaeological Site of Los Caserones, a rich collection of pintaderas (seals) and mud and stone idols was found and is preserved today in the Museo Canario in Las Palmas. You can visit the Túmulo Funerario(burial mound) of the Lomo de Caserones (La Aldea beach). A visit to the four flour wind and water mills is recommended, as is a visit to the lime and pitch ovens and to the still for distilling rum which was in use between 1936 and 1958 at the Playa de la Aldea (La Aldea beach).
