Gran Canaria

From the cooler north to the sunnier south, this perfect holiday island has everything the most discerning traveller could wish for; the great diversity of climate, flora and fauna has led to this island being dubbed “The Miniature Continent”. Where else can you find acres of sand dunes against a backdrop of verdant mountains within easy reach of some of the best hotels, clubs, bars and cafés in Europe?

Gran Canaria’s fabulous climate and varied beaches attract visitors to its shores all year round, with the numerous resorts and hotels offering an abundance of facilities that aim to satisfy all travellers’ needs. These resorts all offer varied entertainment, a good nightlife, beach amenities, plenty of shopping opportunities and a myriad of bars and restaurants, so how do you choose the location and hotel that suits you best?

Gran Canaria’s major Tourist Centres are all located along the southern coast, which enjoys the driest, sunniest and warmest climate on the Island.

San Agustín, Playa del Inglés, Maspalomas and Meloneras are all part of a continuous conurbation, around the Maspalomas Sand Dunes, while Arguineguín, Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán are all built at the bottom of deep valleys to the west.

Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogan are two smaller holiday resorts that are mostly popular for the practice of water sports and each has its own marina. Puerto Rico has a quiet beach around that is possible to enjoy a wide assortment of activities, including boat trips, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing, parachuting into the sea and more. Puerto Mogan is an attractive old fishing with a traditional architecture.

Gran Canaria arguably has the best range of accommodation in the Canaries, depending on whether you want to wake up to sounds of birdsong, the surf or surrounded by the vigour and excitement of a Spanish mainland–style city. Gran Canaria offers great choice of hotels, apartments and villas for the holidaymakers to chose from on their Gran Canaria holidays.

The Resorts

In the capital of Las Palmas, the fabulous beach of Playa de Las Canteras is situated right next to the hub of the city’s nightlife. It is bordered by a popular promenade, lined with a profusion of bars, restaurants, hotels and shops and is a favourite place for strolling. If you want to experience some special festivities in the city of Las Palmas, then come during the carnival period – in January/February/March – or in June (24th) to participate in the Fiestas Fundacionales de San Juan (Saint John festivals) held to celebrate the birth of Las Palmas as a city.
